Lately i have been attending many meetings, be it internal or meetings with external departments outside TNB. When u are attending a meeting, your brain works harder than usual because many processes take place during the session. First, u absorb all the information. 2. Understand it. 3. Analyze it. 4. Think pro-actively. 5. Let the words out. 6. Solve the problem. You see, this sounds similar to the process occurs in a normal conversation that we have almost everyday. However, normal conversation does not really necessitate us to have no # 4 and no #6. As in a meeting, when u especially representing your own big company, in my opinion, u have to have all the 6 elements. U have to set in mind to have a say during the meeting. In order to do this, you must be fully equipped with information, data regarding your company or work related stuff. I think a meeting is like an oral tests during high school. The difference is this oral tests does not require us to 'speak baku'. U only know how much you know about your work/company when u are attending a meeting, particularly with external parties. It happened to me couple of times whereby i couldn`t answer things that i suppose i should know it long time ago or at least aware of it. I feel shame and at the same time disappointed to myself. Many things i don`t pay enough attention to it. All this while i`m just being satisfied by knowing only a pinch of some issue without concerting efforts to really understand and analyze it. In shorter word, i didn`t think for a long term. what if people ask that issue? What if you are the info comes in handy during a meeting with GM? What if you are the only representative?
Some people i would say gifted with powerful memory in which they can remember every single detail graph, news that they hear. When being asked months later, they still can recall it. Well.. i don`t belong to that category. My brain works like normal person who needs repetitions in order to have it stick to their mind. I have engaged in many casual conversations with my colleagues, and during such conversations, many information and data are shared. So I`m supposed to know many things and aware of many things, right? Well..the answer is not because I didn`t let all the 6 processed to take place. And another thing is my I`m slow in process no # 2 and # 3. If we are not performing during these processes, then the next process which entails solving a problem would not succeed. Given that, plus my low level of concentration makes me looks like a dummy sometimes due to my seem like 'i know nothing' look when having a meeting with my unit members. How i wish many times that i was given a photographic memory hehe..so that I only need one time view/listen/study of many things, and that lasts for a while. However i know no pain no gain. Having photographic memory or being a detailed person comes in handy when you are required to attend meetings and solve problems/ any arising issues.
