Sheikh Al Maududiyy
The topic, as I mentioned above was Shahadatul Haqq. Actually the topic was actually the speech by Sheikh Abul Al-A`la al Maududiyy delivered by him at the Muktamar Jamaah Islam that was held in India. Quoted from Wikipedia:
Sheikh founded Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) in British India as a religious political movement to promote Islamic values and practices. JI was against the creation of Pakistan. Presented with a fait accompli after the Partition of India, JI was redefined in 1947 to support an Islamic State in Pakistan. JI claims to be the oldest religious party in Pakistan. With the Partition of India, JI split into several groups. The organisation headed by Maududi is now known as Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan. Maududi was elected Jamaat’s first Ameer (President) and remained so until 1972.
In the beginning of the struggle for the state of Pakistan, Maududi and his party were against the idea of creating a separate state of Pakistan. He did criticize other leaders of the Muslim league for wanting Pakistan to be a state for Muslims and not an Islamic state. After realizing that India was going to be partitioned and Pakistan created, he began to support the idea. Maududi moved to Pakistan in 1947 and worked to turn it into an Islamic state, resulting in frequent arrests.
What inspires us of Sheikh`s efforts is his sincerity and determination of establishing the true Islamic state, not the state for Muslims. Also from Wikipedia,
Maududi also believed that Islam required the establishment of an Islamic state. The state would be a "theo-democracy, and underlying it would be three principles: tawhid (oneness of God), risala (prophethood) and khilafa (caliphate).[15][16][17]
The "sphere of activity" covered by the Islamic state would be "co-extensive with human life ... In such a state no one can regard any field of his affairs as personal and private."
Consequently, while this state has a legislature which the ruler must consult, its function "is really that of law-finding, not of law-making." Maududi believed that the sovereignty of God (hakimiya) and the sovereignty of the people are mutually exclusive.[21] Therefore, while Maududi stated in one of his books that "democracy begins in Islam,"'
The Kalimat Shahadah
Okay, back to our topic of Shahadatul Haqq, as I mentioned previously, Shahadatul Haqq was a speech given by Sheikh Maududi during the JI muktamar. Shahadah Haqq entails calling of people for true Da`wah Islamiyyah.
Most of us would have in our mind that the kalimaat of shahadah simply means that we bear witness and firmly acknowledge that there is no ilah or god but Allah and Muhammad is the messenger sent to us by Allah. We believe in 6 pillars of emaan, then we do all 5 pillars of Islam : Shahadah, pray, Ramadhan fasting, zakah and do the hajj. Khalas! After that, we`re done. No more. But is it really all that we need to do in our life as a Muslim? Does the kalimaah shahadah confine to that only?
After attending this Daurah, it has enlightened my heart and mind of what the kalimaah should really hold. My dear fellow muslimeen and muslimaat, be ashamed of yourself if you believe you`re free from big responsibility of spreading the Islamic dakwah. Sisters and brothers, Shahadatul Haqq is not about only fulfilling 5 pillars of Islam and 6 pillars of Emaan! There are more! If you truly ponder the Kalimaah: I bear WITNESS. The word of witness here, is a big word. The kalimaah only will be materialized when all muslims and mukmineen spread the shahadatul haqq to the entire world, be it in the form of words, pious actions and ultimately the just ruling. In simpler words, do the da`wah to everyone until it has reached to the point that nobody has not been informed of beauty of Islam. We have to prove the true haqq of Islam in this world as to it will become the argument for Allah to punish His servants who simply reject the message of Islam and its full teachings. You know, there are many more Muslims who are not yet given hidayah and understanding by heart of what really being Muslim entail, let alone non Muslims out there. So it is our job to make sure that the true teaching of Islam be spread, by continuing the legacy of Prophet Muhammad. Prophets were sent by Allah to spread the words of Islam and to establish it. And now, no more prophets, but the task has to continue. Who else will carry out? It is our responsibility! Each and every one of us!
I also happened to come across several important points on previous Daurah (Back to Quran) which I attended last June. The sheikh mentioned that there are 3 levels of deeds :
- Establishing 5 pillars of Islam
- Amar ma`ruf nahi mungkar
- Establishing Islamic law/society
Establishing Islamic Empire ( Ustaziyatul Alam)
Dear sisters and brothers, do not rest assured and think that shahadah in the forms of pious actions is sufficient to justify that our we have done all the responsibilities and that we`re in good form to face Allah in the day of judgement. No! Actually, this shahadah is not completed and will never be until a country, an islamic one, which exercises all laws of Islam in totality is established. A country which institutes Islamic syariah as its goal and mission. A country which uphold to the great the religion of Islam. A country that has a ruler ruling in justice and following Islamic teaching. A true Mukmin should at least have a dream for that to materialize! By then, only our shahadah will be firmly manifested.
